The slideshow is READY! Lyndsay and Ryan's intimate wedding on the beach at Atlantis (just outside Nasssau in the Bahamas) was so very LOVELY. Lyndsay & Ryan were eager to share pictures with friends & family who celebrated with them at their reception (held in Columbia, MO just two weeks after the oceanside ceremony).
So we created this slideshow and projected it large during the reception. It gave us snow-bound Missourians a chance to escape to the beach. And what a great first for SilverBox! We've now got the capability to create these slideshows for all our clients.
You'll need QuickTime Player to view the slideshow. You may already have QuickTime on your computer. If so, just click on the slideshow link below. If not, good news! Both Mac and PC users can download a free version of the software by clicking on this link: Free QuickTime Player Download
So come take peak at Lyndsay & Ryan's Wedding Slideshow! Note: The slideshow may take 1-3 minutes to begin, so go grab some flip flops, get comfortable and enjoy!

Melting...hearts at least
The world outside my door is pretty much one big sheet of ice. My kids have been skating...on the front lawn!...in their tennis shoes! Perfect for sledding BUT whew, it's tough climbing back UP the hills. No school today, extending the long weekend a bit more. Happiness here!
So this winter wonderland is great for kids....but is it great for a wedding?
Okay, less than ideal.
But the frigid, icy conditions in no way chilled the giddiness and sheer joy Raina & David radiated on their wedding day. Here's my favorite shot of Raina & her mom as she's getting ready...all a giggle.
Because of Mother Nature, there were friends and family who were, sadly, unable to join them....closed roads, hazardous drives . . . but I tell you, that little church was filled to the brim with happiness.
Exhibit A: David & Rainia during their "private moment" an hour or two before the wedding. How touching is that look on his face. Lovely. Love it!!
I first met Raina six or seven years ago, and I've never seen her look more beautiful or more happy than she did on Saturday. Wow. Her necklace was a gift that her daughter Brittany had surprised her with (purchased entirely with saved allowance money!) In lieu of a veil, Riana had a sheer delicate champagne-colored wrap that looked so lovely next to her ivory skin.
Beautiful!
Here's Raina with daughter Brittany, a 5th grader (and jewelry fan) who has, in the words of her grandfather really just blossomed this past year. I first met "Papa" as he held the back door of the church open for me when I arrived on Saturday. "Hi," I said, "I'm Raina's photographer." "Well hello there" he said, "I'm her dad." The next line: the blossoming part. :DAnd more on Grandpa...is there any relationship more precious than that of grandparents-&-grandkids?. There was much that melted my heart at Saturday's ceremony. The way Papa's face lit up in the presence of his granddaughters is most surely near the top of this list. Here's Brittany and cousin Bethany with their grandparents. LOVE IT!:
David and Raina, how I hope you were able to make it to your warm & tropical honeymoon. (Their flight out of Kansas City was canceled so they planned to drive away from the church and onto Memphis, Tennessee in hopes of catching their flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico.) Fingers are crossed that you two are soaking up sunshine and still giggling right now.
How wonderful it was to document your celebration and your family. Thanks so much for having me. Loved it! Be safe!!

Jenny & Jake : la la LOVE 'em!
Oh! what a TREMENDOUS way to wrap up the year.
What a unique & fabulous celebration!
The Missouri Theatre is such a treasure. I LOVE that building.
What a great idea to get married THERE. Wow!
The Theatre will soon be closing for some major and majorly needed renovations. I'm under the impression that during the renovations much will be changed . . . which leaves me all the more grateful to have had the chance to capture architectural features and interiors while documenting this fabulous celebration. Look at this great venue!
When I arrived at the Theatre, Jake, with help of his old college roommate, was just getting to the finishing touches. Kim and I aren't always as involved in groom preparation as we are the bride's so these opportunities seem all the more exciting.
Here are two of my favorites from the Jake-getting-dressed-series:
Girl stuff, we have access to more often, but I can't think of many images I've created that I like more than these two taken moments before, then during, Jenny stepping into her gown.
Have I mentioned these candy-colored vintage prom dresses? Amazing [And can't you just tell how fun these women are!]:
Jenny and Jake's friends and family traveled across the country to celebrate with them.
Here's one my favorite groom's party shots:
Inside scoop: I first met Jenny shortly after she moved to town last year when Kim and I were shooting some ad images for a local downtown salon. The Salon is called The Strand and my sister Carla worked there, too. [Columbia's not such a big town if that hadn't yet become apparent.] Through their work my sister and Jenny become friends....and where am I going with this? Oh, I would be remiss if I left out that my mom now thinks of Jenny as a third daughter and not only did she AND my brother come as guests to Jake & Jenny's wedding, Carla (kid sister) :
a. did Jenny's hair (which was perfect!);
b. looked so cute in that pink dress; and
c. sang at the wedding. AND got to sing WITH Tom Andes . . . if we were talking Town Treasures, The Missouri Theatre and MOST CERTAINLY Mr. Tom Andes would be on that list. He is such a tremendous pianist. Next time you're in town, try to make it into Murry's (a MOST DELICIOUS restuarant, and yet another of those Town Treasures, I am sure AND Tom Andes plays jazz there pretty regularaly. There's no way you'll be disappointed in either the food, or the music. It's most certainly where to eat and what to do when in Coumbia. Hmm....I'd provide a link to Tom Andes, he has a number of CDs out, but I'm not finding anything this very minute online to link to....well, here he is last week. Does that help? Oh, and that's Carla in pink:
Want to see MORE? Here's the SLIDESHOW with a few of my favorites. Enjoy. And to Jenny & Jake - thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so honored to have been able to record your day.

PS Special thanks to Tyler of the Missouri Theatre Staff who very patiently showing us every possible lighting option both during Jake & Jenny's walk-through and then again the evening of their rehearsal. And an extra speical thanks to Karen who just nailed the images of an expressive Jake and jaw-dropping gorgeous Jenny from the balcony. Great work, team! :D
PPS Just thought of a great BLOG-SURVEY-QUESTION: What's your favorite thing to eat at Murry's?

love & luck in the Bahamas
I couldn't resist the urge to blog from the BEACH! Lyndsay and Ryan have been married for 8 hours now . . . and I'm so excited to sneak a peak at pictures, that I've begun editing while our feet are still gritty with sand.
We're staying at the SAME resort (Atlantis, on Paradise Island in the Bahamas) where Ryan proposed to Lyndsay last January, almost a year ago to the day! Remembering that proposal while walking through the casino (the operative word here is "through" not "into") last night, Ryan confided: "I'm not much of a gambler; I just don't seem to have that kind of luck...but I gambled on Lyndsay, and look how lucky I really am." Spoken like a happy man about to marry the love of his life.
And speaking of marriage, this wedding day was an amazing start to Lyndsay & Ryan's. The women spent the morning (and a good part of the afternoon) in bathrobes (colorfully coordinated!):
then walked barefoot, laughing the entire way, to the ceremony (oceanside of course!):
Lyndsay & Ryan took a post-ceremony spin on the beach
And then it seemed that everywhere we turned was calling to us: "make a picture HERE!" There were storm clouds to the north:
fireworks (who knew?!) to the east:
a sunset to the west:
and to our south? JUNKANOO! (a carnival-like parade of west African dancing and music that my cab driver explained: "it's how we Bahamans share the gift of our cultural expression with the world"). Dressed in wedding garb, Lyndsay & Ryan really had NO chance at remaining bystanders and were pulled, straightaway, into the center of the action.
Love AND luck were in abundance today.
A big thanks goes to Allison & Evan (hey, be sure to visit his new bar, "On the Rocks," on Broadway in Columbia!), who allowed themselves to be recruited as instant lighting assistants. And WOW do I appreciate having been welcomed so warmly & so generously into this intimate, crazy fun gathering of the Perry & Herigon families! See you all at the Columbia reception!

Operation Homecoming: Helen on NPR!
Where or how to even begin a blog entry about my friend-who-has-become-my-sister Helen? I remember with complete clarity my first awareness of her. A "new kid" at school, she sat against the wall at a shiny black-topped science table in physics class on our first day of 9th grade, her face obscured by her hair and a (non-physics-related) book. Books were Helen's trademark...she read them constantly...while walking the halls, waiting for classes to start (and stop), during lunch, anytime, anywhere.
So it is perhaps not surprising that Helen is now writing her own book. In a circuitous route that has involved the both good-and-bad-luck of timing, a lot of persistence and no small amount of talent, Helen is now a published writer. She has had work published in the New York Times and in an anthology of soldiers' writings entitled Operation Homecoming. Her own upcoming book (which she's writing in conjunction with earning her MFA in creative non-fiction writing at the University of Pittsburgh) will focus on her experiences in Iraq as a member of the 1221st Missouri National Guard Transportation Company.
And now you can actually HEAR Helen read a bit of her writing and listen to excerpts of her very recent INTERVIEW on the NPR show "Day to Day" by clicking here: HELEN on NPR's website!!!
I'm so blessed to be sharing life's milestones, from adolescence on, with this creative, loyal, inspiring friend...we skinny dipped in local (and way too shallow) creeks as teenagers, expressed strong...not always favorable...opinions about each others' boyfriends, stood up as Maids-of-Honor at one another's weddings, and it was Helen I called on to sit up, way past bedtime, with my son Elliot while I gave birth to daughter Sophie.
I made the photos of Helen (above) the day she left for Iraq. I am grateful that she's back and glad she's sharing her story with others.
