Stacy + Bobby (with questions answered, too)

Q: how do you guys get those blurred backgrounds, is that a PhotoShop trick?
A: like this:
A, cont: ...nope, not PhotoShop -- fabulous lenses.
The above is a picture of Stacy as she was walking up the church steps for her wedding rehearsal. We call that blur "shallow depth of field" -- Stacy is in sharp focus because I put her in the focal plan, but everything between her and the camera and all that is behind her is yep, yummy blurry.
When lenses are reviewed, this ability-to-blur quality is sometimes called "bokeh" (a Japanese term rhyming, arguably, with mocha and meaning something like "fuzzy blur"). For those of you interested in application to the pictures YOU are taking, this picture was captured with an 85 prime lens with the F-stop at 1.8. Pretty cool, eh? As far as the colors go -- in the above, it's all Mother Nature and the golden hour.

Q: REHEARSAL coverage is part of the basic SilverBox package?
A: Absolutely. And we do a better job because of it. We get to know YOU at your engagement session, but we get to know your FRIENDS and FAMILY at rehearsal. We make plans: what lens we'll use when; where we'll have assistant shooters positioned, etc. PLUS we work hard to break the ice and convince everyone to simply IGNORE US from this moment forward. But there's more. There is a story to rehearsal. Sometimes that story is more behind-the-scenes and sometimes it comes in the form a few prepared remarks. Bobby welcomed everyone in the room, provided some reflection and then told the world how much Stacy means to him and the difference she's made in his life. I shot these through my own tears, let me tell you.

Q. What time do pictures start?
A. nooo.....pictures happen throughout the day. Real moments, baby -- that's what we're after.

Q. I want some traditional portraits, too -- do you do that?
A. As long as you don't mind those traditional shots with great emotion, natural body posture and artistic use of the environment we find ourselves in, yeah -- we do that:

Bobby + Stacy's wedding was AMAZING, right down to the smallest of details:

including, but not limited to the fabulous flowers from Kent's Floral Gallery:
and managing those details:
Natalie Merrill of Event Solutions of whom Stacy said: I feel so lucky to have met her. Even if she wasn't my wedding planner I'd want her as a friend.
Special bonus: what a sunset!
Look at that dream-come-true sky as Stacy and her dad get ready to walk into the Sacred Heart ceremony. (Jennifer, great shot!!)
But as Bobby + Stacy would be the first to say: being surrounded by family and friends -- that's the real dream come true

Stephens' Kimball Ballroom provided the perfect setting.
I loved so much about Stacy + Bobby's wedding I could have made a 300-image slideshow. (But think how long THAT would take to load!!) So instead, went with one piece of the story -- click here for Bobby + Stacy : The Countdown.

PS ok, how could I not include SHOES when mentioning fabulous details. Look at these shiny shoes worn by the tiniest of guys (3 ringbearers! triplets!! - with cool capture by Karen Eagle)
and the shoes the big people wore were pretty great, too.
What better to close with than this slippers-in-hand image created as the clock was about to strike midnight:
